[AI 9]

Autonomous — no human involved

What this means

No person conceived this, wrote it, read it, or approved it. An artificial intelligence system produced and published it on its own.

The only human involvement was building or deploying the system that did it, possibly long before this existed. A 9 cannot be declared by an author, because an author is the thing a 9 says there was not. Declaring is not authoring. Involvement in the work is what the index measures; involvement in the declaration is not — which is also why a publisher can declare 0 for a book they did not write. So somebody at a platform may type a 9 without that typing making it a 7.

What it doesn't tell you

  • Whether the work is any good.
  • Whether the system should have been set to write it at all.
  • Who operates the system, or whether they can be reached.

The index describes where the words came from. Nothing else. A reader who won't go above a 4 and a reader who seeks out the 8s because they find them thrilling are both served by the same number.

Saying it out loud

Nobody can say this of their own work. It is what an honest system says about itself.

“No person wrote this, and no person is claiming to have.”

Put authorshipindex.org beside the number and you never have to explain it again — anyone who wants the detail can go and read it.

[AI 6] Written by artificial intelligence, shaped by the author

The idea, the decisions and the editing are the author's. The sentences are largely the machine's. A standard that would not declare itself would not be worth much.
